With the legalization of CBD in several states in the U.S., various companies and organizations have introduced new line of CBD based products to capture the market. Walgreens, a bighead retailer will also jump on the CBD bandwagon with others to provide an array of CBD infused products to consumers.

The retailer announced that it will sell CBD products to about 1,500 stores spread across 9 states including Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, Vermont, Kentucky, South Carolina, Indiana and Illinois.

Walgreens competitor drugstore chain CVS introduced CBD based products including creams, lotions and salves to eight states earlier in the month of March. With the onset of a revolutionary market via CBD products, retailers are carefully analysing the drug and its potential health effects.

It is one of the hottest products in the U.S. market currently. While several states have legalized its use, others hold back due to previous registered cases or the fact that police does not have the proper measures to identify whether a person is carrying marijuana or CBD.

Police has arrested several truckers in the case of marijuana trafficking owing to the claim that the strips used in drug test showed presence of THC which is still an illegal substance. Producers and retailers are sceptic over the issue as the drug strips are highly sensitive and would detect even the smallest traces of THC which can lead to a humongous problem for them.

According to the government, CBD products can contain THC in as less quantities as 0.3%. Despite this, the FDA has not regulated any legal use of CBD based edible products and therefore prohibit companies from selling CBD in any form of a dietary supplement.

The Food and Drug Administration allows CBD only in drugs that can treat two rare forms of epilepsy for children with a prescription from a specialized doctor.

The regulatory ambiguity has left large companies on the side tracks. Selling CBD infused beauty products such as lotions, creams, roll-ons, massage oils brings far less risk. However, the Food and Drug Administration has announced a public hearing in May to address the regulatory issues on the use of CBD products.

“The CBD-related items we are planning to carry are non-THC containing topical creams, patches and sprays,” Walgreens said in a statement. “This product offering is in line with our efforts to provide a wider range of accessible health and wellbeing products and services to best meet the needs and preferences of our customers.”

CBD comes with a gamut of health benefits that can help relieve stress, pain, anxiety, insomnia and help with some severe case such as epilepsy. But this belief still lies in the dark with no international records or research concluding to this fact.

THC or tetrahydro cannabidiol contrarily is a psychoactive component which is responsible for the “high” that users get when they smoke weed or pot. If used for a longer period of time in high potency, marijuana can cause mental disorders and even lead to death in some cases.

Lawmakers are still creating measures to ensure healthy and safe use of cannabinoid while the consumers are getting curious over the subject and demanding for products in the market.

Also, with influences from celebrities such as Kim Kardashian West, Christen Bell and others, who claimed their love on social media handles for CBD based products, people are now highly driven towards CBD infused beauty products.
